Dan’s Autumn Release!

The weather has very quickly turned Autumnal as the Summer slips away! It is this time of the year that you have to start considering the ground condition more when out on the course.

The greens and approaches are much softer which means you have to really visualise and think about what you need your ball to do. A shot played with a lofted club when the greens are firm and fast will check and feed out slowly, this is really useful in those dry summer conditions. However, when the ground becomes softer the spin will hurt you and the ball will stick in the softer greens.

Use less loft, particularly in to up slopes to help the ball move forward.

This is the skill I talk about a lot...having the ability to predict what will happen to the ball before it happens rather than waiting for it to happen and then being surprised! Try and play different scenario's in your mind, ask yourself "if I land it there with x club, what will it do...if I land it there, what will it do". By asking yourself questions you will start to give yourself the correct answers.

Also learn to reflect rather than just getting frustrated at the outcome. If it doesn't go as close as you would like, ask what could I have done differently? This is how you improve so much quicker, by learning from mistakes and improving your thinking for next time.

With the winter approaching, now is a good to time to work on your game, my 3 Releases: Online Short Game School has expanded on everything from my book and includes everything I discuss at my Short Game School. This is such a comprehensive resource which allows you to work on all elements of your short game at home and on the course to really sharpen your short game up for next season.

Great fun with some really good golf played. The Duke's course was in superb condition and the food/hospitality equally impressive.
