Indoor Practice
I hope you are doing well and wherever you are in the world you are managing to get some golf in!
Here in the UK it is very cold at the moment! It is easy to not pick up a club for weeks but you really can get better whilst you are indoors or at least keep your feel dialled in.
Simply grabbing a club and making some waggles whilst checking your grip is great practice alone. You could then do some swing rehearsals checking your key points, for example, if you tend to roll the club inside in the takeaway then practice where it should be. When you take the ball and target away you get more aware of your swing and it becomes easier to make changes.
The foam balls are equally great for short game practice. Try chipping them onto the sofa with a release-2 (if you have a carpet!) and then keeping them under the sofa with a release-1.
Putting is something I spend a lot of time on indoors. Most evenings I will hit a few putts, particularly when working at my desk, it is good to get up, stretch and roll a few putts. I create a gate and see how good my start line is, if I can get the ball consistently through the gate (my gate is 1.5 balls wide and I place this 2 feet in front of my ball) then I know my stroke is fine.
Thank you for all the lovely comments on my recent videos on You Tube. I posted a 9 hole match at a freezing cold Nailcote Hall and then two 18 hole videos from the fantastic Costa Navarino. Hopefully you learn the importance of course management and the mental side of the game whilst watching these. This should be a key focus for all golfers if you want to improve, the skill of working your ball around a course whilst embracing your limitations is the foundation to lower scoring.
I am enjoying a busy time coaching on Skillest, if you haven't used it before, it is a really simple, easy to use App which allows you to connect with me and send swing videos in along with a description about your game and what you would like to improve. I can then annotate over the videos and I send back a personalised video saying what you need to work on with appropriate practice drills. It really does work and my online pupils are shooting lower scores and really enjoying the whole process.
